Privacy policy
Effective November 7, 2026
The short version: your hunting spots, stands and hunt logs stay on your phone. Other hunters see only the name and home state you pick, plus anything you post to the community board. We don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking tools.
Shot Clock is a deer-hunting forecast app made by Andrew Renschen, an individual developer in Minnesota. This page explains what the app keeps, what it sends, and what you control. Questions: andrew.renschen@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
These are stored only on your device. We never receive them:
- The spot you pick for forecasts
- Map pins for your stands and for other hunters you mark
- Your hunt logs: times, stand, setup, deer seen, notes
- Trophy wall photos, unless you choose to post one to the community board
- Blood-trail recovery marks
- Your app settings and notification choices
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What we store when you use the community features
- A guest account ID the app creates on its own the first time it opens. No email or password is needed.
- Your hunter name and home state. Other users see these on the photo board and leaderboards.
- Photos you post to the monthly board, with your caption, likes and comments. Posted photos can be seen by everyone using the app and by anyone who has the photo's link. Location data inside the photo is removed before it uploads.
- Comments, likes and comment reports. A reported comment is hidden right away until it is reviewed.
- Daily trivia scores, with your home state, for the leaderboards.
Anonymous hunt totals
When you finish logging a hunt, the app sends one anonymous record: the month, your state, the weapon, optic, setup and products you used, how many deer you saw, the score Shot Clock had called, how you rated that call, the rough time of day, and how long you sat. The record carries no name, no account ID and no location finer than your state. These records power the state and national "What hunters use" totals and help us make the forecast more accurate for everyone. Because they can't be tied back to you, they aren't deleted with your account.
Location
- GPS, only when you tap. If you allow it, the app uses your phone's location when you tap "Pin where I am" or "Blood here." Those pins stay on your phone. The app does not track you in the background.
- Weather. To get your forecast, the app sends the coordinates of your chosen spot to Open-Meteo, our weather provider. Nothing that identifies you goes with it.
- Share my sit. This puts your stand's location into a message that you send yourself, from your own phone, to someone you pick. We never see that message.
Notifications
The 5am brief, the noon nudge and the after-hunt reminders are scheduled on your phone. We don't run a push server and don't receive your notification data.
Who handles data for us
- Supabase hosts the community database and posted photos on servers in the United States.
- Open-Meteo provides weather data.
- Apple distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight. During testing, Apple may share crash reports and any feedback you choose to send.
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it for advertising.
Your choices
- Change your hunter name or state anytime on the Me tab.
- Delete your own photos and comments anytime in the app.
- To delete everything tied to your guest account (name, state, photos, comments, likes and trivia scores), email andrew.renschen@gmail.com. We'll delete it within 30 days.
Children
Shot Clock is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has posted something, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Big changes will also be noted in the app.
